Why I love Mixed Wrestling

Mixed wrestling is the ultimate truth teller. You’re about to square off with a woman who is maybe six inches, or a foot, shorter than you. She may weigh 25, 50, 75 or even 100 pounds less than you do. She’s cute and attractive. But when you say go, you’ll learn quickly you’re not what you think you are. She grabs your head, throws you onto hour back and she slides onto your chest, her knees on each side of your neck. She grabs your hands and arms and pulls them straight back above your head. Your bigger than she is, and you believe stronger. But you’re stuck. She has you pinned and you’re only getting up if she chooses to.
You find out that it’s her, not you, who is in control. She is in better physical shape. She knows jiu-jitsu. She’s whispering in your ear, reminding you in a soft coo that you’re a big, strong man and you should be able to easily get out. But you can’t. And eventually, you have to tap your submission, and suddenly, you’re hooked.
Mixed wrestling is a lot of things: It’s a way to blow off steam, to make new friends, to laugh and to learn how to overcome your fears. Sometimes, it’s not a tiny woman who looks like the girl of your dreams who is your opponent. It’s a woman who towers over you, who has rippling muscles and who is in great shape. You look at her and you realize it’s not going to end well for you. If she gets angry at you, well, look out. You’re completely at her mercy.
Each session is a new and unique journey, and you learn things about yourself you never thought about previously. You never know how one session is going to go compared to another, and that’s what makes it so much fun to take part in.
